Richard D. Lyons is an Arizona native, having been educated in the Scottsdale and Mesa public school systems, at Arizona State University, and at the University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of Law.

Mr. Lyons spent the majority of his early years in practice representing the victims of medical negligence and their families, in which he continues to practice today.  He has successfully recovered sums for his injured clients in the millions of dollars.  Some of Mr. Lyons’ successful cases have included proving negligent hospital management; failure to diagnose and treat curable conditions; failure to diagnose and treat post-surgical complications; and the performance of unnecessary surgery.

The area of medicine in Mr. Lyons’ cases above include the following:

    •    Neurosurgery;
    •    Cardiac surgery;
    •    Vascular surgery;
    •    General surgery;
    •    Orthopedic surgery;
    •    Cardiology;
    •    Cancer, including lung, colorectal and other cancers; and
    •    Family practice.

Mr. Lyons has also spent a considerable portion of his practice representing business and land owners in a variety of litigation matters.  Mr. Lyons has litigated the prosecution and defense of such commercial torts as breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty, professional negligence, and fraud.

Finally, Mr. Lyons represents numerous school districts in the Phoenix and Tucson areas, and throughout rural Arizona.  He has defended districts against investigations by the Department of Justice and the Office for Civil Rights.  Mr. Lyons has also advised administrators and school boards on numerous issues, including a variety of personnel matters, constitutional questions and regulatory compliance.

Mr. Lyons lives in Mesa with his wife Darlene, who is a public school teacher.  Together, they enjoy camping, fishing, scuba diving, and taking care of their many pets.
