Suggested Documents to Prove Viablity of Marriage for Immediate Relative Purposes
In order to prove the validity of your marriage (that you and your spouse were legally married and live as husband and wife), we recommend that you prepare the following documentation to submit in connection with your Petition for Alien Relative:
1. Birth certificates of any children born of the marriage;
2. Your and your spouse’s birth certificates and marriage certificate;
3. Leases or property deeds with both your names;
4. Joint bank account statements;
5. Joint utility statements;
6. Joint life or health insurance policies;
7. Joint credit card accounts or other credit card account statements;
8. Joint purchases or loan documents (car, boat, appliances, furniture, etc.);
9. Joint income tax returns;
10. Photographs of your wedding, honeymoon, and other special occasions;
11. Copies of letters with envelopes addressed to both of you; and/or
12. Any divorce decrees of either spouse.
