When you file for bankruptcy protection, the court assumes legal control of your debts and property not covered by applicable exemptions.  A bankruptcy trustee is appointed to your case by the court.  The trustee’s job is to make sure your creditors are paid as much as possible.  The bankruptcy trustee will review your paperwork and has the authority to investigate your case.
