Approximately 4 to 6 weeks after filing for bankruptcy, the Court will schedule a first meeting of creditors.  You, as the debtor, are required to attend the meeting and your attorney will attend with you.  Creditors rarely attend the 341 Meeting of Creditors.  The meeting of creditors usually lasts about 5 to 10 minutes and is conducted by the assigned bankruptcy trustee.  A notice of the location of the 341 Meeting of Creditors is mailed to you and all of your creditors by the court.  The main purpose of the meeting is to verify your identity and the truthfulness of your petition.
