Carnivals and festivals are fun places to enjoy time with your family, but many people don’t realize the potential dangers. Dangerous carnival rides are a real concern, and can pose a safety threat to you and your children.  Dozens of people are injured every year on carnival rides and a number of people die. There are laws in place to address carnival safety; however, there are still some serious accidents.

Types of Injuries

There are a number of different types of injuries that may occur on rides. One of the most common causes of injury is a fall from a ride. This may happen because the person is not properly secured with a seatbelt or other device. Falls cause bruises, cuts, broken bones, and head and back injuries. Some minor injuries will heal without further complication, but some injuries are severe and may even be life threatening.

Report Dangerous Rides

Carnivals and theme parks must adhere to the laws that require regular safety checks. Sometimes these rides are not properly maintained and in some cases, not inspected as frequently as people would expect. As a result, there are rides open to the public which could be hazardous. Additionally, all rides should be monitored by a qualified employee. If any safety concern is noted, do not get on the ride and report it immediately to authorities.

Accidents on Rides

There are some important steps to take if someone is injured on a ride. First, attend to the person and call for medical attention. Stabilize the person, but do not move them in case they have a back or neck injury. Make sure that the employee knows about the accident and stops the ride from further use. The police and paramedics should respond and a report should be made about the accident. Note the names and phone numbers of any witnesses to the accident, should they become necessary later.

Victims of Accidents

Those who are victims of accidents at carnivals may be entitled to seek compensation for damages. The carnival company or management group is responsible for providing safe rides to the public. When an accident occurs, it is often due to negligence on the part of the owners. The ride may not have been properly maintained, or was not adequately examined for safety. Those who are hurt by such accidents may need to seek justice with help from a skilled personal injury law firm.
