Dale R. Shumway, an Arizona native joined with David K. Udall in 1964 in the formation of the firm. During the 34 years of practice, Mr. Shumway has focused on representing people who have been injured by the negligence of others. He has represented people who have been injured in accidents involving automobiles, motorcycles, trucks and defective products and premises.
Mr. Shumway has represented many people who have suffered permanent and severe injuries which have left them with long term disabilities. One person suffered complete paralysis below the spine. This representation resulted in a settlement which pays substantial monthly and lump sum payments for the life of the injured person.
Mr. Shumway has had extensive experience representing people who have water rights. He currently is involved with people who have rights to waters in the main-stream of the Colorado River.
Mr. Shumway is a graduate of Arizona State University where he received a B.A. degree in agronomy in 1954 and the University of Arizona College of Law in 1963. He served as an assistant attorney general for the State of Arizona from 1963-1974. He was twice elected to serve as Mayor of Tempe, Arizona in 1970 and 1972. In 1976 and 1980, he was elected to the Board of Directors of the Central Arizona Water Conservation District, the district which operates the Central Arizona Project. He served as president of the board from January 1983 to June 1984.
Mr. Shumway is licensed to practice in the Arizona state courts, the United States District Court, District of Arizona and the Supreme Court of the United States.
